Representative Austin Scott (GA-08) votes "No" on Tuesday's vote to increase the nation's borrowing capacity:
"I cannot vote for an increase in the debt ceiling -- which would saddle future generations with a great debt burden -- if the President is not willing to rein in his own spending habits.
"The Federal government is spending a trillion and a half dollars more than it takes in. I came to Congress to stop runaway spending, not enable it. Therefore, I have made it clear to the Leadership in the House that such an increase must absolutely be accompanied by major structural spending reforms and/or significant spending cuts exceeding the level of the debt increase."
