Cornyn Praises the Texas Legislature for Passing a Resolution Calling for a Federal Balanced Budget Amendment

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) today released the following statement praising the Texas legislature for passing House Concurrent Resolution 18, calling for a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) to the U.S. Constitution:

"I applaud the Texas legislature for passing House Concurrent Resolution 18. A Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution will be yet another example of how Washington can learn from Texas about the importance of implementing fiscally sound policies. Families across Texas and the country have to balance their budgets every day and make tough choices to live within their means--there is no reason their government should operate any differently."

Senator Cornyn is the leading advocate of a BBA in the U.S. Senate. In March, the Senator joined the entire Senate Republican Conference in introducing S.J.Res. 10, a BBA to the Constitution to bring much-needed fiscal discipline back to Washington and reverse the course of running unsustainable deficits. The consensus amendment relies heavily on a proposal introduced earlier this year by Senator Cornyn.
