The House Financial Services Committee yesterday unanimously adopted Congressman Keith Ellison's (D-Minn.) amendment to ensure the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau protects military service members and their families from abusive financial practices. Congressman Ellison released the following statement:

Our armed services members and their families make tremendous sacrifices for our country, but unfortunately they are also frequently victims of abusive loans and predatory financial schemes.

While I strongly disagree with the overall Republican effort to undermine the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I appreciate that we can set aside our partisan differences and come together to protect our servicemembers.

"I look forward to continue working with my colleagues in the Financial Services Committee to include members of the military among the greater community of consumers who need a strong advocate and watchdog to protect their financial interests.
