Rep. Gary Peters released the following statement celebrating Israel's 63rd Day of Independence:

"Sixty-three years after its founding, Israel has accomplished so much as the homeland for the Jewish people. Today, the State of Israel is an ally for security and an island of stability in a dangerous region of the world. Israel is an engine of the world's high tech economy and an example of pluralistic democracy.

Since the day Israel declared its independence, the United States and Israel have enjoyed a special friendship, and with a Middle East in the midst of many changes that alliance will be more important than ever to both countries. I will work in Congress to ensure that bond remains unbreakable.

I am pleased to congratulate Israel on all of its successes, and I am honored to join in celebrating Israel's Day of Independence."
