A bill that addresses flood insurance and flood plain map reform was passed by the Financial Services Committee yesterday. H.R. 1329, the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2011, was introduced by Rep. Judy Biggert (R-IL) and now may be considered before the House for final passage.
As many of you know, reform of these flood plain maps has been one of my priorities in Congress, it was also the first piece of legislation, H.R. 700, that I introduced in the 112th Congress. Yesterday's legislation would allow for targeted exemptions and delayed implementation of the revised flood plain maps, among other items. While I still believe that my bill dealt with the issue in the most effective manner, I am happy that my other colleagues have taken notice of this issue and are moving in the right direction.
