Cassidy Votes to Lower Gas Prices and Create Jobs

Today, Louisiana Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D., issued the following statement following his vote for H.R. 1230, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressman Cassidy is committed to increasing Louisiana jobs and lowering gas prices.

"Under President Obama's energy policies, the cost of fuel has skyrocketed, hard-working Americans, especially in Louisiana, have lost jobs and our energy security has been weakened. Today, average Americans are paying almost $4 dollars a gallon -- this is unacceptable considering the vast natural resources of this country. Louisiana, as a major energy producer, has been unfairly impacted by the administration's policies.

"Today, I voted for the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act, to expand energy production, create jobs and force the Secretary of Interior to conduct oil and natural gas lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Virginia that were previously cancelled by the administration. This is the first of a series of Republican bills that will create over a million jobs, according to Louisiana State University's Joseph Mason.

"Now more than ever, Americans want a responsible energy policy. Over the coming weeks, I will promote legislation to lower gas prices, create jobs in Louisiana and America, and decrease our dependence on foreign oil."
