Congressman Landry Fights for South Louisiana Farmers & Fishermen

Fighting for the South Louisiana farmers and fishermen, Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) sent a letter today to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Risk Management Agency (RMA) requesting all applicable flood-related losses be declared "unavoidable, naturally-occurring events."

Citing the RMA's agreement to recently cover crop losses in Missouri, Landry wrote: "The same historic floodwaters that started to overtop the levees at Birds Point and New Madrid will threaten to overtop the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer control structures at Old River and the Morganza Spillway and pour into the Atchafalaya Basin, as such, I urge you to consider this a naturally occurring event."

Landry hopes this letter will persuade the agency to do the right thing for his constituents.

"For multiple reasons, it is only fair for the Risk Management Agency to cover the crop losses in the Basin. I hope the government will do the right thing for our farmers and fishermen," said Landry.
