Landry's Requests Met: USDA to Cover Crop Losses

Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) applauded the announcement made by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that farmers whose crops have been damaged by the historic Mississippi River flooding will be eligible for crop insurance indemnities in accordance with the provisions of their crop insurance policy.

"With flooding expected to damage crops throughout South Louisiana, I am pleased that the USDA will assist our farmers," said Landry. "This announcement will provide some relief to our hard-working farmers whose crops already have been or are expected to be damaged. Additionally, our producers who are unable to plant but have purchased crop insurance will be eligible for prevented planting payments."

The USDA announcement comes just days after Landry and Congressman Rodney Alexander (R, LA-05) sent letters to the USDA's Risk Management Agency requesting all applicable flood-related losses be declared "unavoidable, naturally-occurring events."

"Congressman Alexander and I have been working hard to ensure our farmers are covered amid the historic flooding. The USDA has heard our requests and did the right thing for our constituents," said Landry. "As the flood fight continues, I will continue to stand strong for the people of South Louisiana."
