Lummis Votes to Lift De Facto Offshore Moratorium

Statement

Today, U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) applauded House passage of H.R. 1229, the Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act. H.R. 1229 would end the de facto moratorium on American energy production in the Gulf of Mexico by setting firm timelines for considering permits to drill while ensuring a transparent and responsible process.

Lummis released the following statement:

"More American energy production means more American jobs, lower energy costs and less dependence on foreign countries. It's a simple recipe. Unfortunately it's clear that the Obama Administration is more interested in its anti-American energy agenda rather than following a formula that would provide relief to families and small businesses all over the country who are feeling the squeeze of skyrocketing energy costs and the millions of Americans who are still searching for good work.

"For the Gulf, the Administration's de facto offshore drilling moratorium is a jobs moratorium. Fortunately, there is great potential for thousands of jobs in the region and the opportunity to signal to the rest of the world that America is serious about its energy development. The Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act takes steps to reverse the Administration's approach of becoming more reliant on foreign oil and gas or more expensive alternatives. When it comes to energy production we can't afford to pick winners and losers; America needs it all."
