The Path to Prosperity

Statement

Date: April 28, 2011

On April 15th, the U.S. House passed House Concurrent Resolution 34, the Path to Prosperity budget proposal authored by Rep Paul Ryan,by a vote of 235-193. H.Con.Res. 34 makes many important first steps towards getting our federal fiscal house in order. It cuts $6.2 trillion in government spending over the next decade compared to the President's budget, calls for a simpler, less burdensome tax code, preserves Medicare for future generations without making benefit cuts to current or near-term retirees, and repeals the unsustainable health care law.Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has announced that the Senate will soon take up this budget for consideration.

There have been many misconceptions surrounding the plan, especially in relation to Medicare. To be clear, the plan makes no changes to Medicare for current retirees.
