Cassidy Statement on Repeal of Sebelius Slush Fund

Statement

Date: April 29, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Louisiana Congressman Bill Cassidy M.D., issued the following statement on H.R. 1217, the repeal of the Sebelius Slush Fund.

PPACA provides $17.75 billion to Health and Human Services for the next ten years (FY 2012-2021) and continues to appropriate $2 billion per year after 2015 with no sunset.

"Constitutionally, Congress has the responsibility to spend taxpayer dollars and to make sure they are used responsibly. Yet, Secretary Sebelius has a $17.75 billion dollar slush to fund the President's health bill, known as Obamacare, without Congressional oversight.

"Without oversight this money could be used for any purpose described as benefiting prevention and public health -- without the review necessary to make sure taxpayers are receiving value.

"Today, I returned the power of the purse strings to Congress by voting to repeal the $17.75 billion Sebelius Slush fund."
