Bishop: 9/11 Commission Report Must Not Be Ignored
Washington, D.C. Congressman Sanford D. Bishop Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement today regarding the final report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, also known as the 9/11 Commission:
"The 9/11 Commission report is a sobering reminder of how vulnerable Americans are to those who would do us harm
""While the report does not assign blame, it does make it clear that Americans were not as safe as they should have been on September 11 and that we are not as safe as we can or should be now. We must implement immediate changes in the way that our intelligence communities operate and it is imperative that our first responders and law enforcement agencies have the funding and resources they need to meet our security needs. Fighting terrorism and keeping Americans safe is a bipartisan issue that should have been at the top of our agenda in 2001 and must be our priority today.
"I commend the 9/11 Commission for its excellent work, leadership and patriotism and I am glad that the American public has the opportunity to read its findings. But first and foremost we owe it to the families of those who lost their lives to use this report to focus our efforts so that an attack such as September 11, 2001 never happens again"
