Furious Landry Attacks Obama For Ignoring Oil Spill Region on Anniversary While Travelling to Facebook

Congressman Jeff Landry (Republican, LA-03) scolded President Obama regarding the President's decision to not visit the Gulf Coast on the one-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy.

"While Sharon and I joined the majority of people along the Gulf Coast in prayer and remembrance of the 11 lives lost, President Obama spent yesterday's solemn occasion campaigning on the internet," said Landry. "It infuriates me that the same man who committed to "to stand with (us) until (we) have fully recovered from the damage that has been done' did not spend yesterday in mourning with the residents of the Gulf Coast."

"President Obama has spent the past year working hard to end domestic energy production in the Gulf, putting thousands of Americans out of work and millions more paying nearly $5 a gallon for gasoline," continued Landry. "Yesterday the President -- who wants an oil-free energy policy -- had no problem fueling up Air Force One to fly across the country to do an online townhall with Facebook, which he could have done from a computer in his office or, better yet, from a computer along the Gulf Coast?"

Landry, who represents the district most affected by the oil spill and moratoria, concluded with possible reasons Obama did not visit: "Maybe the President was too scared to meet with the small business owners along the Coast because they would show him the significant safety progresses and newly deployed technologies made to extract our natural resources. Maybe the President was too scared to see the hard-working residents of the Coast because they would explain their desire to work the rigs. Or maybe the President was too scared to meet with anybody because they would tell him what 69% of Americans told CNN: we favor increased offshore drilling."
