Statement on House Passage of FY2012 Budget Resolution

Statement

Date: April 20, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today Congressman Raúl R. Labrador released the following statement on the passing of H.C.R. 34, the FY2012 budget proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan, Chairman of the House Budget Committee.

"Today's vote on the FY2012 budget for me was a landmark in the efforts to save our country from drowning in a sea of red ink. Congressman Ryan's budget is not only a bold statement of intent to put our financial house in order, it is the start of a long overdue adult conversation with the American people on what we can and can no longer afford as a nation.

"This conversation will be long and there will be debate on the details, but this is how a responsible democracy must function. The budget will redefine many existing policies that will strengthen popular entitlement programs--preserving them for future generations without bankrupting our country. I look forward to engaging the people of Idaho and throughout America in this adult conversation.

"I know once the American people have had time to reflect on the truth of our financial situation they will support this responsible budget as a first major step in the right direction for our nation."
