Lummis Statement on President Obama's Deficit Speech

Statement

Date: April 13, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) released the following statement today regarding President Obama's deficit speech:

"Although I am encouraged that President Obama has realized his first budget in February did nothing to address our country's fiscal crisis, today's "do-over' budget is the same plan, different day. Continually reverting to a tax-and-spend approach as a fix for every one of our nation's problems is misguided and dangerous. While the tired rhetoric put Vice President Biden to sleep, I hope it wakes up the country. America is facing record debt and deficits because Washington has a spending problem, not because it has a revenue problem. We must address our entitlement programs in order to save them, not use them as 2012 election issues. Our job creators need confidence to put Americans back to work and grow the economy.

"I look forward to this week's vote on the House GOP's FY2012 budget blueprint, "The Path to Prosperity.' This plan tackles our country's debt crisis, spurs American businesses to start hiring again and preserves our nation's social safety nets for future generations."
