Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 1473, the Continuing Resolution to fund the government through September 30, 2011. The bill, which cuts $38.5 billion for this year, passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 260 to 167.
"This bill represents a relentless effort by Republicans to cut spending and move toward a smaller government. We still have a long way to go to truly tackle our record debt and deficit, but this marks a good first step. As we speak, every West Virginian shares $45,000 of the national debt. This is simply unsustainable. I will continue to live up to my promise to trim the massive debt each of us carries in order to secure a bright, prosperous future for our kids and grandkids."
