Letter

Due to the voting schedule in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., was unable to attend the groundbreaking of the new Macy's Fulfillment Center in Berkeley County. A letter was read on her behalf at the event. Capito says that with so many businesses slow to expand and hire during these tough economic times, this groundbreaking is certainly something to celebrate.

Dear Peter,

"It is a great pleasure to congratulate you on today's groundbreaking ceremony. Regretfully, I cannot be with you in person to celebrate a day that marks the physical beginning of the partnership between Macy's and our community.

"In the late 1960s, General Motors brought a parts warehouse to this very industrial park -- a facility that employed over one thousand people at its peak. 25 years later, Quad/Graphics came to the neighborhood, and with it, another nearly one thousand jobs. Now, 15 years later, Macy's is the once-a-generation game-changer, bringing over one thousand jobs to Berkeley County.

"I applaud Macy's for the decision to bring its internet fulfillment center to Cumbo Yards. It shows Macy's understands a smart company can grow, even in challenging economic times. It shows you understand West Virginia will provide a diligent workforce. It shows you understand the quality of life Berkeley County can provide to Macy's employees. And it shows Macy's is willing to work in concert with its county, state, and federal partners.

"Again, please accept my congratulations on today's groundbreaking ceremony for Macy's new fulfillment center. I look forward to attending a groundbreaking here next Spring, and I wish you continued success in the future."
