Walz Presents Rochester WWII Vet with Medals Before Honor Flight

Today, Congressman Walz presented a set of replacement medals to Dr. Robert Sabbann, a WWII veteran who will going on an honor flight next week to see the WWII memorial on the National Mall in Washington DC.

Walz's office helped Dr. Sabbann receive his medals prior to his departure to our nation's capital.

"Today, we honor Dr. Sabbann's service to our nation," said Walz. "May these medals serve as a reminder of his nation's gratitude for that service. We wish Dr. Sabbann and the rest of the Honor Flight veterans a memorable trip to Washington."

Walz also thanked Pete Mathias, Southeastern Minnesota Honor Flight Treasurer and the rest of the Southeastern Minnesota Honor Flight team for making it possible for WWII veterans to visit their memorial.

"Our WWII Memorial is truly a way for our entire nation to say thank you and your efforts to get our veterans our to their memorial makes sure they hear that thank you loud and clear," said Walz.

Next week's Honor Flight will depart on Saturday, April 30th and will be the SE MN Honor Flight's 8th trip. To date, SE MN Honor Flight has taken seven flights allowing nearly 689 veterans to visit the World War II memorial.

A list of the medals presented to Dr. Sabbann is below:

The American Campaign Ribbon, for performance of duties in the American Theater of Operations during WWII while stationed at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis, TN.

The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, for performance of duties in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII while stationed at Ford Island, Hawaii.

The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, for performance of duties in the European Theater of Operations during WWII while conducting anti German submarine operations in the Atlantic.

The World War II Victory Medal, for his individual contributions supporting freedom and democracy by opposing the Axis of Germany and Japan during WWII.
