High Gas Prices Taking Toll on Americans, Landry Continues Call for Domestic Energy Production

With Americans consuming less gas due to nearly $4 per gallon prices, Congressman Jeff Landry (Republican, New Iberia) is continuing his call for domestic energy production.

"Americans are paying an average $3.79 for a gallon of regular gasoline. As no surprise -- for five weeks in a row, Americans are pumping less gas than they did a year ago," stated Landry. "In one year, the President has issued only 10 permits for drilling and Americans have been forced to pay 32% more for gas. Americans are paying roughly $340 million more per day to fill up their tanks than they did last year; this is wrong."

"I am tired of these high gas prices, and I am tired of the President's policies that are blocking American energy production and causing the pain at the pump," continued Landry. "The American people need lower prices at the pump. We need the President to let us use responsible, affordable domestic energy like clean coal, natural gas, oil, and renewable resources."

Landry -- the House's authority on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico -- looks forward to tomorrow's Natural Resources Committee where three critical pieces of legislation will be marked up and pushing other energy measures.

"I look forward to passing the Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act, and the Reversing President Obama's Offshore Moratorium Actout of committee tomorrow. I will work hard to get these bills approved by the full House and I will continue to support legislation that reduces gas prices, increases domestic energy production, creates American jobs, weans us off of foreign oil, and raises revenue to reduce the national deficit."
