Heinrich Statement on President Obama's Speech on the Federal Budget

U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) released the following statement following President Obama's "The Country We Believe In" speech today:

"Today, President Obama's proposal to cut $4 trillion from the federal deficit was based on the American values of shared responsibility and prosperity--juxtaposed against the House Republican plan, which places the burden of debt reduction on those that can least afford it.

"As far as I'm concerned, the fiscal year 2012 budget proposed by Chairman Ryan is dead on arrival because it eliminates Medicare as we know it. How we fund our government is a reflection of who we are as a nation and what we stand for. I'll continue working to reduce the deficit but not on the backs of New Mexico seniors or the middle class."
