Stutzman Votes Against Extending Senate Budget Deadline

Congressman Marlin Stutzman (IN-03) released the following statement after voting against the three week budget extension, H. J. Res. 48. The Continuing Resolution will move the Senate government shutdown deadline to April 8th following the Senate's inability to pass H. R. 1 on March 9th. The CR passed on a vote of 271-158 and will extend the $2Billion a week in deficit spending cuts.
"This is a vote against the process," Stutzman stated, "the Senate Leadership is holding this year's budget hostage. Republicans need to up the ante and push for a resolution to bring stability to the economy. Senate Majority Leader Reid is not allowing for an open budget process and wants to keep the government running with no or minimal cuts to deficit spending. Now is the time to have the Senate seriously consider and pass a budget for the remainder of the year. This is so important that I believe we should have rejected this CR, cancelled the constituent work week and stayed in DC, to get down to the business of passing a real budget bill for the rest of this year with serious spending reductions. Extension after extension, week by week is not a guideline that will lead to job creation or allow for the economy to recover."
