Thompson Releases Statement on Potential Federal Government Shutdown

Statement

Date: April 8, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) released the following statement regarding a potential federal government shutdown.

"I see no reason for the government to shut down due to legislative inaction", said Thompson. "A deal is very close at hand, but House Republicans seem intent on shutting the government down over divisive social policy that should not be part of this debate and to score political points with the Tea Party. I support passing a clean continuing resolution that will keep the government operating until a long-term solution can be agreed upon. While many non-essential services will be forced to close during the shutdown, my Washington D.C. and six district offices will retain regular business hours."
