Labrador Statement on Vote to Fund Government for the Remainder of FY2011

Statement

Date: April 14, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today Congressman Raúl R. Labrador released the following statement on the passing of H.R. 1473, which will fully fund the federal government for the remainder of the current fiscal year.

"I commend GOP leadership in the House for staring down a Democrat-controlled Senate and White House and forcing them to actually enact spending cuts when just four months ago they were intent on continuing their damaging spending spree. I look forward to moving on to the debate over Chairman Paul Ryan's budget plan for FY2012.

"I have been on the record supporting the delisting of wolves and defunding of the wild lands policy. I co-sponsored separate legislation designed to achieve both of those goals. There were some other aspects of this bill I agree with, but the level of spending cuts simply wasn't high enough to garner my support.

"It is important to note that coming into this year we were looking at a Congress and the White House planning to continue to spend more money we all know we do not have. With the help of this strong freshman class, we were able to start making actual and significant cuts. "
