Dear Colleague:
After being hit hard by the recession, the small business sector is poised to lead the recovery and create jobs -- but only if big government gets out of the way. That is why we urge you to support H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011, which stops the Environmental Protection Agency's anti-small business climate change agenda.
The National Federal of Independent Business and the National Black Chamber of Commerce agree that the EPA's global warming regulations amount to a massive tax on energy. Whether it's the electricity to light a retail establishment, the natural gas to run a restaurant kitchen, or the gasoline or diesel to power a delivery truck or tractor, all will go up under the agency's costly agenda. Energy costs are high enough without federal regulations raising them further, but that is precisely what EPA's global warming measures are designed to do. In short, the EPA's regulations are all harm and no good -- for small businesses or anyone else. That is why they must be stopped.
America's small businesses create seven of every ten new jobs and they employ just over half of the country's private sector workforce. A big part of creating an environment for economic growth and removing barriers for small business job creation is preventing burdensome federal regulations. And EPA's reckless climate regulations are among the greatest looming burdens for job creators.
The Energy Tax Prevention Act sweeps aside these costly new global warming regulations while keeping in place all the existing air quality protections we have come to rely on. Join us in supporting this bill.
