Van Hollen Statement on Government Reform Committee Hearing on 9-11 Commission Report

Washington, D.C. - United States Representative Chris Van Hollen released the following statement today after the Government Reform Committee Hearing on the 9/11 Commission Report:

"Congress must move quickly to consider the recommendations of the Commission before adjourning in October. That is why we are back in Washington today to discuss the Commission's work directly with Commission members.

"The Commission's report calls for a significant reorganization of both the Executive Branch and the Congressional oversight process with respect to certain national security issues. While Congress sometimes moves swiftly to reform the Executive Branch, it often fails to apply the same standards to itself. We should not allow Congressional turf battles to interfere with the important changes that the 9/11 Commission recommends. It would be a mistake for Congress to call for changes from the White House without examining the changes that must be made in our own house. I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to move to address the tough issues raised by the 9/11 Commission."
