Kathy Hochul Pledges to Fight Aviation Amendment That Puts Families at Risk

The proposal by Rep. Shuster (R-PA) to unravel years of work to reform the airline industry following the devastating crash of Flight 3407 has prompted Kathy Hochul, candidate for New York's 26th Congressional District, to vow that once elected, she will stand with New York's WNY delegation to fight the proposed changes.

"In Congress, I will fight the influence of special interest money, which all too often trumps the best interests of the public," said Hochul. "No one from outside this area knows the collective pain we experienced as a community following the crash of Flight 3407.

"The safety of our families and loved ones must be our top priority and we must do anything we can in order to ensure such a tragedy does not happen again. Amending the FAA Reauthorization Bill as passed, would put our nation and our citizens at risk.

"The airline industry has pumped thousands of dollars into the coffer of the Member of Congress who has proposed destroying the accomplishments of the 3407 families. So I join Rep. Brian Higgins and Rep. Louise Slaughter in strongly opposing the Shuster Amendment and pledge as a Representative from the 26th District, I will fight any changes that threaten these much needed reforms."

The proposed amendment would gut measures to combat pilot fatigue, increase commercial pilot licensing requirements, improve training practices, establish an electronic pilot records database, and setup new transparencies for regional carriers.
