Not joining Hochul on budget compromise will lead to shutdown

The following is a statement from Kathy Hochul, candidate for New York's 26th Congressional District:

"More than three days after I challenged my opponents, Republican, Jane Corwin, and Tea Party-endorsed candidate, Jack Davis, to join me in supporting a budget compromise, both candidates have refused to tell the people of Western New York what they support.

"Tonight, at midnight the United States government will shut down unless Congress finally works together and compromises on a budget. But instead of supporting a compromise, both Jane Corwin and Jack Davis have made excuses and danced around the main issue at hand: do they support a budget compromise that avoids a government shutdown?

"So let me be clear, I am asking once again: Jane Corwin and Jack Davis, do you support a budget compromise that will keep essential services going or do you support a massive government shutdown that will stop small business loans, delay federal income tax refunds, stop critical job training services, suspend student loans, delay new social security claims, postpone veterans' benefits, and halt our men and women in uniform from receiving a paycheck?

"Join me in supporting a budget compromise or explain to our seniors, our students, our veterans, our soldiers serving abroad, and Western New York's hard working families how you've played politics all week and support a government shutdown that will delay each of them vital services. The clock is literally ticking and the people of the 26th District will not accept any half-hearted responses."
