Lummis Applauds Congressional Passage of 1099 Repeal

Today, U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) applauded congressional passage of H.R. 4, the House-passed repeal of the burdensome 1099 tax reporting mandate included within ObamaCare.

Lummis released the following statement:

"Today's bipartisan effort to repeal the misguided 1099 reporting provision is a victory for America's small businesses. The last thing our country's job creators need is a mountain of unnecessary paperwork. I look forward to President Obama's quick action on signing this legislation into law and will continue to fight to fully repeal the misguided health care law and replace it with common-sense solutions."

Background:

· Lummis voted for H.R. 4, repeal of the 1099 mandate on March 30, 2011.

· Under ObamaCare, the 1099 mandate expanded tax information reporting regulations by requiring businesses to issue a 1099 form for any payments to corporations, or property payments that exceed $600 per year, per payee.

· According to the National Federation of Independent Businesses, at $74 an hour, tax paperwork is the most expensive paperwork burden placed on small businesses by the federal government.

· On January 19, 2011, the first vote of the 112th Congress, Lummis voted to repeal ObamaCare.
