Capito Votes To Fund Troops, Prevent Government Shutdown

Statement

Date: April 7, 2011

Today, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., released the following statement after voting for H.R. 1363, the Department of Defense and Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act of 2011. The bill would secure funding for the Department of Defense through the end of the 2011 Fiscal Year (Sept. 30, 2011) and cut $12 billion in spending over the next week:

"Republicans are as serious about preventing a government shut down as we are about getting our fiscal house in order; the two are not mutually exclusive. This bill balances much needed spending cuts while keeping the government open. I hope the Senate and the President will follow our lead--and the will of the American people--and pass this bill to fund our troops and keep the government running."
