Cornyn Votes to Repeal Burdensome 1099 Provision in Healthcare Law

Statement

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, today voted for an amendment to repeal the burdensome 1099 tax reporting requirement in the $2.6 trillion healthcare law. The amendment, offered by U.S. Senator Mike Johanns (R-Neb.), overwhelmingly passed the Senate today by a vote of 87 to 12. After the vote Sen. Cornyn issued the following statement:

"Today's vote to repeal the 1099 paperwork provision in Obamacare sends a clear message to small business owners that we've heard your concerns and we've taken tangible steps to prevent this burdensome provision from hampering your ability to grow and make new hires.

"The President must now sign this repeal into law. His inaction will result in miles of red tape and regulations strapped on the backs of our small business owners, burdening them with more expenses and greater uncertainty during these fragile economic times.

"Considering the President has already issued waivers to nearly 3 million people he should have no problem signing the 1099 repeal, which has strong bipartisan approval in Congress and the resounding support of America's small businesses."
