SENATOR COLLINS' STATEMENT ON THE NOMINATION OF REP. PORTER GOSS AS CIA DIRECTOR

Washington, DC - Following the announcement this morning that President Bush named Representative Porter Goss to head the Central Intelligence Agency, Senator Susan Collins released the following statement:

"President Bush has made a wise decision in choosing Congressman Porter Goss, the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, to be the next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. At a time when our nation is at an increased risk of terrorist attack, the President has tapped an individual who can hit the ground running in leading the CIA.

"Through his professional experience with the CIA and U.S. Army Intelligence and more recently, as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Porter brings to this position a wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience with the intelligence community. He understands the challenges we face as we work to reorganize the intelligence community to make our nation safer."
