Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member on the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Department of Labor's March Jobs Report:
"Today's jobs numbers -- 216,000 net jobs added in March and the lowest unemployment rate in two years -- serve as an important reminder of the progress our economy has made and all we stand to lose if Washington Republicans insist on their irresponsible agenda of blindly slashing spending and putting our recovery at risk.
"House Republicans have made clear they are committed to providing tax breaks for the richest and subsidies for big oil companies, while they cut education for our kids and health security for our seniors -- and if they don't get their way, they have no problem shutting down the government. To govern is to choose, and the GOP has chosen to pursue an ideological agenda at the expense of common sense, jobs, and the economy."
