Stutzman Comments on State of the Economy Budget Hearing

Today Congressman Stutzman (IN-03) joined Chairman Ryan and the other members of the House Committee on the Budget to welcome Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke as he testified on the state of the economy. Today's hearing was to discuss the fiscal and monetary policies that have led the US to brink of default. Congressman Stutzman requested an explanation as to why the Federal Reserve has not looked into options that would save the taxpayers in the short and long term.
"Why can't the government prioritize debt so that we don't default?" Asked Stutzman "We need to make Social Security, the Military and interest payments a priority." "Since getting to Washington everyone has been saying "We must raise the debt ceiling' and I am asking why is this a foregone conclusion and can we actually work to fix the system?"
Chairman Bernanke talked of laying the hard decisions at the door of the Budget Committee. "Our Nation cannot reasonably expect to grow its' way out of our fiscal imbalances," concluded Bernanke.

Congressman Stutzman represents the 3rd Congressional District of Indiana and serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, the House Committee on the Budget and the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity.
