Chairman Graves Statement on March Jobs Report

Statement

Date: April 1, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the March unemployment rate decreased slightly to 8.8 percent.

"Decreasing unemployment numbers are always welcome news," said Chairman Graves. "But this number could be better and more Americans could be back to work faster if we eliminate excessive government spending, lower taxes, and remove government regulations that are strangling job creation and halting economic growth.

"The failure by Senate and House Democrats to pass a budget last year continues to contribute to our uncertain economy, which has slowed small business job creation. Now, we must clean up last year's budget mess, and get to work on cutting spending and establishing confidence so small business owners are able to create jobs."
