Pete Sessions to Present $100,000 Federal Grant to Irving Fire Department

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32) will present a $100,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to the Irving Fire Department on Thursday, March 24 at 2:30 p.m. at Irving Fire Station #6, located at 2801 Esters Road in Irving, Texas 75060. Accepting the grant on behalf of the City are Mayor Herbert A. Gears, Irving City Manager Tommy Gonzalez and Irving Fire Chief Mario Molina.
"I am honored to present this important AFG grant to the Irving Fire Department, whose members provide an essential and much-appreciated service for the 32nd District of Texas," Sessions stated. "I am grateful for the protection and prevention methods they provide, and I am pleased that this exemplary Fire Department will be able to purchase an ambulance cleaning unit to protect Irving's firefighters and the individuals receiving care."
The AFG awards are administered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and provide financial assistance to our nation's fire departments to help them meet firefighting and emergency response needs. Since its inception in 2001, the grant has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critical equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary to help protect the public from fire and related hazards.
The Irving Fire Department will be using the AFG funds to obtain an ambulance cleaning unit that will cleanse and decontaminate ambulances after each use, protecting both firefighters and individuals receiving emergency care from germs and diseases.
So far this year, AFG has awarded 2,619 grants this year, totaling over $296 million. In addition to Irving, 16 fire departments in North Texas have been awarded grants.
"As first-responders, Irving's firefighters put their lives at risk every day, braving dangerous and hazardous conditions in the line of duty. I congratulate the Irving Fire Department on receiving new equipment funding that will aid their continued success and safety," Sessions said.
