Capito Responds To Bayer Announcement

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R.W.Va., responded to Bayer CropScience's announcement that the company will not restart production of MIC at its manufacturing facilities in Institute, West Virginia due to uncertainty over delays.

"I am disappointed to learn about Bayer's decision to lay off hundreds of workers in our community. Chemical companies like Bayer have long played a vital role in the economic strength of the Institute community, providing good-paying jobs to hundreds of residents. While I am reassured that Bayer will continue production of one product which does not require MIC, any type of job loss is especially disheartening in this economic climate. I pledge to work with Bayer to determine what resources they need to maintain its presence in our community.

"Because courts were slow to act in determining a final restart date for production at the plant, Bayer decided to shut-down production all together instead of continuing to assign resources into this particular area of production. Unfortunately, this is another example of government red tape and slow-decision making inhibiting business's ability to operate and keep people at work."
