Duffy: Less Government, More Growth

Statement

Date: March 15, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S.Congressman Sean Duffy, a member of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC), issued the following statement today after the JEC released a report showing that a decrease in government spending as a percentage of GDP accelerates economic growth:

"We've seen that you cannot grow the economy by growing the size of government and we cannot borrow and spend our way back to prosperity. What this reports shows is that when our national deficits explode the way they have, it creates uncertainty in the marketplace because there is an expectation that taxes will rise as well.

"In order to grow our economy and create sustainable jobs, we need to rein in the size and scope of our federal government by removing burdensome regulations, ending ineffective programs and forcing Washington to begin to live within its means, just like every small business and working family in Wisconsin.

"I look forward to working with not only my colleagues on the Joint Economic Committee, but in the whole House as well to promote pro-growth policies that will empower small businesses, encourage investment and get our people back to work."
