Van Hollen Statement on the Sentencing of Alan Gross

Statement

Date: March 13, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on Alan Gross being sentenced to 15-years in prison in Cuba:

"This unjust sentence is the latest in the deplorable treatment of Alan Gross by the Cuban Government. Mr. Gross has dedicated his life to providing humanitarian assistance and was in Cuba as part of a USAID contract to provide support to members of the Cuban Jewish community when he was arrested.

"I call on the Government of Cuba to immediately and unconditionally release Mr. Gross. He has been held for over a year, without cause, and should be allowed to return to his family. This extraordinary miscarriage of justice must end without delay."
