Heinrich Statement On Republicans' Effort To Defund NPR

U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) released the following statement in opposition to House Republicans' effort to defund National Public Radio. Rep. Heinrich voted against the bill, H.R. 1076, which was rushed to the floor of the House today and passed by a partisan vote of 228 to 192.

"Highly partisan legislation, like what the Republicans rushed to the House floor today, to defund National Public Radio has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility and everything to do with politics. Instead of focusing on creating jobs or reducing the deficit, the House Republicans have wasted time trying to defund one of the most widely-used and independent journalistic institutions in America.

"The Republicans' bill to defund NPR doesn't create any jobs, it doesn't save the government any money, it doesn't reduce the federal deficit, and it has no hope of becoming law. This is the end of the 11th week of this Republican Congress, and we have yet to see a single bill from the House Republicans focused on creating jobs."
