Klobuchar Votes to Cut Senate Budget By 5 Percent

Today, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar voted for an amendment offered by Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) that called for the Senate to cut its annual budget by five percent. Every year since being elected to the Senate, Klobuchar has given back at least five percent of her appropriated office budget to the U.S. Treasury, including the year she was Minnesota's only Senator for over six months.

"At a time when Minnesotans are making tough choices over their family budgets, government must do the same," Klobuchar said. "I have returned at least five percent of my office budget each year that I've been in office, and I will continue to do so. I believe additional cuts are needed to make government more efficient and hold Washington more accountable for spending, and I will continue to work towards a long-term plan that responsibly reduces the deficit."

Senator Nelson's amendment passed the Senate.
