Klobuchar Statement on Minnesota Manufacturing Quarterly Export Record

Statement

Date: March 15, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, chair of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation, and Export Promotion, released the following statement after the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released a report showing that in the fourth quarter of 2010 Minnesota manufacturing exports reached a quarterly record high of $4.6 billion:

"This report is encouraging for Minnesota businesses in these challenging economic times. With 95 percent of the world's customers living outside of our borders, finding new markets for our products is essential to long-term economic growth and job creation. We need to make sure that every American business can tap into the growing international marketplace, and that's why as chair of the Export Promotion Subcommittee I will continue to work to open new markets for U.S. exports."

Last year, Klobuchar introduced the bipartisan Export Promotion Act with former Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) to provide small- and medium-sized businesses with the tools they need to tap into markets overseas. This bill was incorporated into the Small Business Jobs Act that was passed into law last year.
