Turner Supports President Bush's Comments to National League and Brownfield Comments

TURNER SUPPORTS PRESIDENT BUSH'S COMMENTS TO NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE AND BROWNFIELD COMMENTS

WASHINGTON, DC -Congressman Michael R. Turner (R-OH-3) commenting on President Bush's address earlier today at the Urban League National Convention, offered the following statement:

"I would like to offer my strong support to the President for the speech he gave at the Urban League National Convention. Last spring, House Speaker Dennis Hastert and I also had the opportunity to address the Urban League during their meetings in the nation's capital. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet with Urban League members and my former mayoral colleague Marc Morial, current president of the National Urban League. It was clear today that President Bush enjoyed the dialogue as well."

"The President announced a new partnership with the Urban League to increase minority business ownership. I want to congratulate the President and the Urban League for this new initiative that will expand opportunities for minorities to own businesses and take better advantage of the American entrepreneurial spirit."

"The President's speech also included remarks about the importance of brownfield redevelopment. He understands the blighting influence these abandoned sites have on neighborhoods and communities throughout our nation's urban areas. I look forward to working with the administration and the National Urban League to accomplish our mutual goals of creating jobs and economic opportunity in America's urban centers."
