Chairman Graves Promotes The SBIR Program As A Great Tool To Spur Small Business Job Creation

House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) has released the following statement after today's full committee hearing on the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program:

"As our nation deals with an unemployment rate that hovers around nine percent, our number one priority is growing the economy and creating an environment for small business job growth. The SBIR program works to help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into products and expand their business to create jobs without any additional government spending."

"This program serves a dual purpose of stimulating innovation among small private-sector businesses while providing government agencies new, cost-effective and technical solutions to meet their varied mission requirements. The SBIR program is a significant factor in the founding of new companies, providing partnering and networking opportunities, and providing the impetus to start projects that otherwise would not have gotten off the ground. Today's hearing marked the beginning of the Committee's work to reauthorize this program and my hope is that both houses of Congress can work together to pass this sooner rather than later."
