DeLauro on Japanese Disasters, and Efforts

Statement

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement today in response to the multiple disasters in Japan.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan and their loved ones as they face the devastation from last Friday's earthquake, the resulting tsunami, and fight to avoid a nuclear disaster. These shocking events are still unfolding, but it is my hope that the worst is over and further tragedy can be averted. I urge Third District residents to contact my office, or the agencies listed below, should they be in need of assistance."

For residents of the Third District currently in Japan and in need of assistance, the U.S. Embassy and consulates are the best resource. U.S. citizens requiring emergency consular assistance should contact the Department of State at JapanEmergencyUSC@state.gov.

For the family and friends of those affected living here abroad, the U.S. State Department (202-647-4000) can assist for American citizens and the Japanese Embassy in Washington (202-238-6700) can help if you are concerned about a Japanese citizen.
