Sen. Rand Paul Introduces Five-Year Balanced Budget Plan

Senator Rand Paul today introduced a five-year balanced budget plan at a press conference in the U.S. Capitol. The plan would bring spending near the historical average in its first year, repeal Obamacare, and reduce spending by nearly $4 trillion relative to the President's budget.

Joined by Senators Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), Sen. Paul laid out the groundwork of his plan and reiterated the necessity for balancing the budget and restoring fiscal order in Washington.

"While official Washington is sitting on their hands and ignoring the ever-expanding deficit, I am offering a real plan to rein in spending and address the looming debt crisis," Sen. Paul said. "The only way we can balance the budget is if we have real leadership, and the President has abdicated his leadership on this issue. It's time to take bold action to bring our country back from the brink, and I am proud to start the conversation on how we go about that."
