Issues: Transportation

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement this afternoon on Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood's announcement that U.S. DOT is making approximately $2.4 billion in federal funding available for high speed rail development to various states through a competitive process:

"The high speed rail announcement today should signal a new, stronger stage in our continued fight for funding -- the beginning of a new front in a continuing battle. The decision on this funding will be made on a competitive process, and Connecticut has a very compelling and powerful case on the merits. I am determined to fight as long and hard as necessary, working with our Congressional delegation and the Governor in this profoundly important common cause. This funding is vital to jobs now and in the future, as well as a public investment in transportation critical to economic growth and quality of life."
