U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Finance and Budget committees, today issued the following statement regarding the Labor Department's February jobs report indicating the national unemployment rate has dropped to 8.9 percent:
"While millions of Americans are still searching for jobs, today's employment report may be a sign that this bleak period of joblessness is making a turn for the better. The creation of any new jobs is good, but it is still not good enough for the 8.9 percent of Americans who are out of work. The President promised two years ago his trillion-dollar stimulus would keep unemployment below 8 percent, and we've yet to see that fulfilled. The President must now work with us to cut spending, stop borrowing, and reduce bureaucratic over-regulation that is stifling job creation."
