Sen. Moran to Secretary Clinton: Veto U.N. Resolution Against Israeli Settlements

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today strongly encouraged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to direct the U.S. representative at the United Nations Security Council to veto a Palestinian-sponsored resolution condemning Israeli settlements. The Security Council is expected to vote on the resolution tomorrow.

"Secretary Clinton must direct Ambassador Rice to veto the U.N. Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements. This resolution does nothing to further the goal of peace and is not in the interest of the United States," Sen. Moran said. "Peace cannot be made at the Security Council. It must be made by the Israelis and Palestinians in direct negotiations. In the midst of political upheaval in the Middle East, it is more important now than ever that the United States stand by our ally Israel and oppose this resolution or any other one-sided action critical of Israel."
