"For more than forty years, public broadcasting has informed, educated, and enriched the lives of millions of Americans. In small towns throughout Wisconsin, public radio and TV stations may be the only source of free and high-quality local, national, and international news, educational children's shows, and arts programming.
I agree that to reduce the deficit and balance the budget, deep cuts and sacrifices must be made. But, rather than first cutting billions that go to two wars and unnecessary weapons systems, House Republicans want to eliminate the diverse programming public broadcasting provides -- programming that listeners help sustain with their own contributions.
I value the workers in public broadcasting and the important services they provide and oppose cuts that will destroy one of our nation's public treasures."
