Peters Calls for Veto of Anti-Israel UN Security Council Resolution

Statement

In response to the pending anti-Israel resolution in the United Nations Security Council, Rep. Gary Peters issued the following statement:

"Since the beginning of the peace process, the issue of settlements has been one reserved for final status negotiations between the parties. The United States must stand by our ally Israel and use our veto power at the United Nations Security Council to make clear that the negotiating table is the only avenue to resolving the conflict, and that efforts to single Israel out for blame and criticism are unacceptable and unfounded."

Since taking office, Rep. Gary Peters has been an outspoken advocate for strengthening America's relationship with Israel. He traveled to Israel in 2009 shortly after taking office to meet with Israeli leaders and discuss economic and security cooperation. In the aftermath of the flotilla incident in 2010, Peters led the bipartisan effort to affirm Israel's right to self defense, authoring a letter of support signed by 338 members of Congress.
